The Worcester Natural History Society and the Lyceum Movement, 1825-1865
Wednesday, February 26
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Did you know that when the current – day EcoTarium was founded in 1825, its name was the Worcester Lyceum of Natural History?! Over the years, its name changed to the Worcester Natural History Society and, eventually, the EcoTarium.
What’s a lyceum, you ask? A lyceum is a hall for public lectures or discussions, or an association providing public lectures, concerts and entertainment.
In celebration of our organization’s beginning, the EcoTarium is offering four lyceum sessions to bring the community together for lectures and discussions throughout our 200th anniversary year.
On Wednesday, February 26th, the EcoTarium/Worcester Natural History Society is partnering with the Worcester Public Library to offer our first 200th anniversary lyceum! Join us at the Worcester Public Library to learn about the history of the EcoTarium and the Lyceum Movement from Clark University Professor Mindy Marchand, PhD, and her students, as they present “The Worcester Natural History Society and the Lyceum Movement, 1825-1865.” There will be a Q & A session after the presentation.
This event is free to attend but requires registration!
