Special Access Tour at the Waterworks Museum | Kids Out and About Boston

Special Access Tour at the Waterworks Museum

Special Access ticket holders will receive an in-depth guided tour and be permitted access to the sub-basement two stories below ground to view the massive Allis pumps that delivered 30 million gallons of water per day to the citizens of Boston. Participants will also have the exclusive opportunity to climb either the Allis Engine or the Leavitt engine for an up-close look at these mammoth machines. This tour is recommended for ages 10 and up and all participants must be at least 46 inches tall due to the height of the safety rails.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

All participants will be required to sign an accident and liability waiver acknowledging the risks associated with climbing the high and narrow pathways before being permitted to engage in the Special Access Tour. This waiver will be provided on your arrival. If you would like to review it ahead of time, please email us at info@waterworksmuseum.org.

Please make sure to double check the date of your tickets before purchasing as, in the event the tour is sold out, Eventbrite will automatically reschedule you for the next available date.

Tours leave PROMPTLY at 2:45, so please plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your tour starts to give yourself plenty of time to sign your waiver and get settled. Remember that space is limited on our Special Access Tours and demand is high, so if you are unable to attend your scheduled tour date, please reach out to us ASAP about rescheduling or cancelling your tickets. While we will make every effort to accommodate late arrivals, if you have not checked in for your tour by 3:00 you will forfeit your spot and other museum visitors will be able to purchase tickets for available spaces. To avoid missing out, make sure to reach out to us if you are running late so we will know to hold your place.

The Waterworks Museum is pleased to be participating in the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program by extending a discounted rate of $9 per person on Special Access tours to EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders. This program would not be possible without the collaboration of the Mass Cultural Council and the Executive Office of Health and Human Services’ Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Public Health’s WIC, and the Massachusetts Health Connector respectively. Check out the full list of organizations offering EBTWIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have any symptoms of illness, please do not visit the museum at this time. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are well.
