Delicious Cheese and Maple at Vermont's Sugarbush Farms

By Meg Brunson

When I think of Vermont I think about two things: maple syrup and cheese! There are a ton of sugar houses (producing maple syrup) in Vermont... but I wanted to visit the BEST one - and my research definitely paid off!

We excitedly set off to Woodstock, Vermont to learn about how maple syrup is made and experience some taste testing! When we arrived on the farm we spent a couple minutes with the farm animals that were out front - goats, bunnies, and more! Then we eagerly steped into the tasting room - there were more samples here than anywhere I've ever visited before! We tried fifteen different cheeses - and sharp cheddars that were more sharp than we've ever tasted - so sharp that they were crystalizing! We also were able to taste test four grades of pure Vermont maple syrup - all were delicious in their own ways! The staff were so kind and patient and eager to serve us tons of samples!

There was an adjoining room with MORE samples: jams, jellies, honey, dips - so many amazing tasty treats! And finally a gift shop where you could buy everything you recently tasted, plus a variety of other goodies. We picked up some super warm and fuzzy slipper socks for the whole family, maple candy, and they had unique sodas made with maple and more!

Down the hill, at the sugar house, they were not making syrup (since we visited in the fall and syrup making happens in the spring) but everything was set up as a self-guided tour so we were still able to learn a lot about the process!

We used the cheese we brought home from Sugarbush to make some grilled cheese in the RV and it was legit the BEST grilled cheese I've ever had. If/when we return to Vermont we won't even consider another source for our maple syrup and cheese - Sugarbush farms knocked it out of the park! Vermont is not THAT big of a state - if you're visiting, you need to make a trip to Sugarbush... start planning your trip at https://sugarbushfarm.com/!
